Guys. It’s been a media shitstorm for months now. The news cycle has been nothing but “politician this,” “breaking news that,” “Trump did what?,” “Trump did what again?,” and more. And regardless of your coping strategy (whether it’s reaching out to politicians, or trying to tune out all the noise)—it has taken its toll emotionally, mentally, and physically on all of us.

We understand if you need a break and perhaps a day off from work—especially after the midterm elections. While we can’t help you play hooky, we CAN bring some bookish and doggy goodness into your life. Take ten minutes out of your day to absolutely *adore* these doggos and their literary namesakes.

(This is also secretly—not so secretly—a list of some of our favorite literary figures, fictional and real.)

Special thanks to our pal Elizabeth at Off the Shelf for introducing us to these amazing puppers! Follow her on Twitter and Instagram if you love books, dogs, and books with dogs.

Albus Puppledore: Named for Albus Dumbledore, one of our favorite wizards from the Harry Potter universe!

This good boy—along with pal Lily Pupper—is a weekend warrior and mischief-maker. He has stolen our dang hearts. We love everything Harry Potter, and know that Albus and Lily will, respectively, live up to the amazing wizard and witch for which they are named.

Bilbo Waggins: Named for Bilbo Baggins, a central figure in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings universe.

Called Bo by those who know him well, this shih tzu mix has captured our hearts. He’s got the right idea…get cozy this week and take time to decompress from all the craziness! Perhaps with a copy of The Hobbit?

Doris Kearns Dogwin: Named for Doris Kearns Goodwin, one of our absolute favorite writers and one of the best historians of our time.

Doris the Second is a newborn and does not yet have her own Instagram account, but we’re eagerly waiting for one! Very pleased to make your acquaintance.

Sherlock Bones: Named for Sherlock Holmes, debatably Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous character!

This bookish doggo has the right idea visiting the NYPL! Real talks, that’s where we wish we were right now. We highly suggest you pick up a book—it’s been proven to help decrease stress!

Mary Puppins: Named for Mary Poppins, the iconic nanny written into existence by P. L. Travers (and soon to be played by Emily Blunt on the silver screen)!

GASP! There’s something about Mary! We’ve watched this video on loop for…so long.

Winnie the Poodle: Named for Winnie-the-Pooh, who needs no introduction.

This. Is. So. Cute. We would like to steal you, please.

Ernest Hedgingway: Named for Ernest Hemingway, a classic American author!

While Ernest II is not a doggo, we had to include this hedgehog on this list because how could we not?! Ernest’s whole jam is reading, and we 100% appreciate that. We too would like to spend all day sitting on—and perusing—books. How do we get that job?
