Craving More Chilling Adventures of Sabrina?

by  | October 29
Netflix

Did you spend this past weekend bingeing the new Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (CAOS), like I did? I finished the entire season and I have to say, as much as I loved Sabrina the Teenage Witch when I was younger, this may be better. It is a very different story. Sabrina from the ’90s show was upbeat, funny, and lighthearted; Sabrina from the new Netflix series is DARK AND TWISTY! True story: I struggled to fall asleep on Saturday night because I was seeing one of those freaky demons every time I closed my eyes.

If you need a break between watching each horrifying episode of Season 1, or if you’ve finished and need something to distract you while waiting for Season 2 to drop, check out these books!

Now that you’ve had a taste of CAOS, check out the source material that the new Netflix series is based on—the original Archie Comic. The author of this comics series is also one of the executive producers for the show, so you know that the episodes will closely follow the original plot. Roberto Aguirre Sacasa also helped develop the CW’s Riverdale series. I’m hoping for some crossover episodes in the next season! Bonus if you love Riverdale, check out these four books!

An Easy Death

An Easy Death

by Charlaine Harris

Love the magical world of CAOS? Charlaine Harris is also a master at creating a magical world where things are a bit dark…

America has been shattered into several countries by the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression. Lizbeth Rose lives in a southwestern country now known as Texoma (a fractured part of the United States). It is a world where magic is acknowledged but mistrusted, especially by Lizbeth Rose, a young gunslinger.

After a battered run across the border to Mexico, Lizbeth accepts a job offer from a pair of Russian wizards as their local guide and gunnie. The trio is searching for a low-level magic practitioner, Oleg Karkarov, who they believe is a direct descendant of Grigori Rasputin. The Russians believe that Oleg’s blood can save the young tsar’s life. Together they journey through the altered United States and are attacked by enemies who do not want them to succeed in their mission.

The Nightmarchers

The Nightmarchers

by J. Lincoln Fenn

Julia Greer is a struggling journalist recovering from a nasty divorce and custody battle from her ex-husband. When her great-aunt offers Julia an outrageously large amount of money to travel to a remote Pacific island to collect samples of a special flower and to investigate the death of her (the great-aunt’s) sister, Irene, Julia thinks her life may be turning around.

Irene Greer was a botanical researcher who plunged to her death in 1939 on the island, convinced that the spirit of her dead husband and daughter had joined the Nightmarchers—a ghost of ancient warriors that rise from their burial sites on moonless nights.

Julia quickly learns that this island is full of secrets and the Church of Eternal Light seems to be tight-lipped about the many deaths on the island, including the deaths of her relatives. The longer she stays on the island, the more the line between reality and the fantastical begins to blur. There is some weird magic happening on the island, and Julia finds herself face-to-face with the real reason why the island is taboo…

In CAOS, Sabrina and her aunts belong to the Church of Night, which has their own creepy secrets that they hope nobody will ever discover.
