Bookish Soundtrack: Experience A Little Life With These Songs By John Grant, Bleachers, And More

This week, check out #GlommableBookCovers on our Instagram, @glommable, to see some of our favorite, most memorable covers in recent years, continuing with the cover of A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, published by Doubleday Books, which actually has quite an interesting story behind it.

In an episode of Emily Gould and Angela Ledgerwood’s wonderful podcast, Lit Up, Yanagihara explained the arduous process behind her fight to make this the cover of her book. It’s a piece of artwork by Peter Hujar called “Orgasmic Man,” and even though her editor tried to fight it tooth and nail, Yanagihara emphasized her years of experience as editor-at-large at Conde Nast to push this in the direction she wanted.

Personally, we think it’s perfect.

Here’s a soundtrack we put together for A Little Life, which was a magical, all-consuming, miss-your-stop-on-the-train, can’t-catch-your-breath, completely unforgettable story about love and friendship and the possibility of Never Getting Better.
