If Nate Silver is to be trusted, this year’s presidential election may be all but decided. But here at Glommable HQ a timeless debate rages on, one that most likely will never be resolved. We could spend hours debating the key issues on the table: do you prefer puppy snuggles or kitty cuddles? Would you rather spend your stolen moments reading “Corgi Beach Day” listicles on Buzzfeed, or YouTubing vintage Keyboard Cat vids? Do you think overly affectionate dogs are OMG adorable or just plain annoying? Are all cats truly jerks?

Regardless of your stance on the matter, a good “National [Fill in the Blank] Day” can unite a house divided, so today, on National Cat Day, I’m putting myself squarely on Team Cat and giving you my seven favorite books for celebrating the wit, whimsy, and general cat-titude of the feline species.

i-could-pee-on-this1. I Could Pee On This: And Other Poems by Cats

“Who Is That on Your Lap?,” “Kneel Before Me,” and “Some of My Best Friends Are Dogs” are just a few of the hilariously existential original poems featured in this classic compilation of verse penned by cats. There’s a follow up book entitled “I Could Chew on This: And Other Poems by Dogs,” but let’s get real—my dog doesn’t have the attention span required to chase down an errant crumb on the floor, let alone write a sonnet.
